Article 1 [ Scope ]

  1. The present Rules shall apply to maritime and other commercial disputes or differences on the basis of an agreement of the parties. The present Rules apply if an arbitration clause, an arbitration agreement or a subsequent agreement of the parties expressly refers to the present Rules.

  2. The present Rules are the “Maritime Arbitration Rules of the Piraeus Association for Maritime Arbitration (2007)” (hereinafter “the Rules”).

  3. Any reference to the Rules contained in an arbitration clause, an arbitration agreement or other agreement, is deemed to be a reference to the Rules in force at the commencement of the relevant arbitration.

  4. The parties are free to modify or supplement the Rules for each particular dispute or difference, unless the arbitrators have already been appointed, in which case their agreement is also required.

  5. The Rules, as may be modified from time to time in accordance with paragraph 4 of the present Article, are an integral part of the arbitration clause or the arbitration agreement of the parties.
